Applying gold leaf is not nearly as difficult as I anticipated it could be. I did purchase the loose leaf booklet before I discovered there is a transfer type that I will use in the future. I started with my window open and fan on in the other room. I quickly discovered that using this required the air to be still. After shutting the window and turning fan off, even my breathing was causing the sheet to move. Once the sheet moves, there is no getting it flat and straight again. So on the 4th sheet I learned that you could'nt breath or remove the tissue paper too quickly, if you wanted the gold sheet to stay in perfect condition. Once the leaf was next to the cake it was quite easy to put on. I used a damp piece of paper towel to moisten the fondant and then a dry paintbrush to tap down any pieces of gold leaf that needed it. Gold leaf can be expensive for the client. I purchased a 24 page loose leaf booklet (3"x3"). with shipping it was about $50. As you can see, the tier covered is very small. I love the look and will definitely use the gold leaf again. Will try the transfer type next time.
